AI Policy
No bots. No runaround. Just real help from a real person. This is exactly where I use AI, where I stop, and what I never do with your information.

Where I stand
No bots and no runaround. Just real help from a real person.
That has been my promise since day one, and the rise of AI does not change it. When you contact me, you are getting me: Nicholas. You won't deal with a chat widget, a ticket queue, or a support script written by a machine. You get a person who picks up, listens, and stays with your problem until it is fixed.
While I use modern tools, including some that utilize AI, to help me move faster and catch details I might otherwise miss, they remain tools on my bench. They are not members of my team, and they will never sit between you and me. Everything I hand over to you has been through my hands.
How I use it
I provide straight answers without hedging. AI helps me with:
- Research and creating rough drafts that I personally rewrite and verify.
- Technical assistance while I build and maintain your work.
- Digging through performance data to identify actionable insights.
- Turning my raw notes into readable, professional content for you.
However, my use of these tools stops at:
- Business Decisions: My recommendations are entirely my own.
- Unverified Work: I will never hand you work that I haven't personally read and checked. I do not deliver work I cannot defend.
- Misrepresentation: I won't pretend to know things I don't. If a job falls outside my expertise, I will tell you and point you toward someone better.
- Communication: There is no bot in this relationship.
Tools change constantly, but my standards do not. Regardless of the technology I use, the judgment and the finished work are mine.
A note on naming tools
You will not find a list of specific AI products on this page, and that is deliberate. If I named them, this page would be out of date within a month.
What does not change is the standard above. Whatever tool is on my bench, the judgment and the finished work are mine, and the rules on this page apply to all of them equally.
If you want to know exactly what I am using on your project, ask me. I will tell you.
Your information
This is the question I get asked most, so I will state it plainly.
I do not let the AI tools I use train on your business information, and I check the settings that control that.
I keep sensitive details out of AI tools. I do not put your customers' personal information, your account credentials or your financial records into them.
I do not type passwords or logins into AI tools. They live only in secure password management systems where they belong.
I do not sell your information, and I do not hand it to anyone to use for their own purposes. Like any business, I run on ordinary software: a CRM, contract and payment tools, and the AI tools described here. Your information passes through those so that I can do the job you hired me for. None of them get it to keep, resell, or train on. If your specific industry has regulations regarding data residency, please tell me before we begin and I will work within those requirements.
Websites (Sutton Digital Works)
If you have used AI to create a concept to show me what you want, please send it. I do not view it as a finished product, but rather as a valuable starting point. AI is an excellent way to communicate a vision when words are hard to find. Just tell me what you liked about it.
What I will not do is publish AI-generated work as-is. This is important for two reasons:
- Copyright: AI-generated work generally cannot be copyrighted because copyright protects human authorship. If your logo or layout comes straight from a generator without significant human intervention, you may not truly own it. You hired me so that you would actually own what you paid for.
- Trust: It shows. People, search engines and even the AI assistants that describe your business to customers can often tell. A site that feels machine-made can quietly undermine the trust you are trying to build.
Additionally, my name is on every site I build. Every project is part of my portfolio, and I hold myself to a standard that ensures the work continues to perform for you long after the launch.
If you have already built something with AI and want it finished professionally, I am happy to take that on as a separate, quoted project. Care plans cover updating and improving existing sites, while rebuilding or finishing an AI project is handled as a separate job.
Tech support (Sutton Tech Support)
You will always reach a human. There is no phone tree, no bot, and no script. That is the core of this business.
I may use AI as a reference, much like looking up an error code or researching something unfamiliar, to work through tasks more efficiently. That is simply research. What I will not do is read you an answer that I do not understand myself. If I am unsure, I will tell you and then I will find the answer.
I do not put your personal files, photos, passwords or account details into AI tools. If a task is beyond what I can safely perform remotely, I will tell you plainly. I would rather be honest than guess.
What I ask of you
One request, and it exists to protect what you paid for.
Please do not run the finished work through an AI tool to have it copied, reworked, or regenerated. That covers the designs, layouts, graphics and written content I made for you. Publish it, use it, edit it, hand it to another designer years from now: all fine. Feeding it to a generator is the one thing I ask you not to do.
The reason is ownership. Put a design through a generator and what comes back out may be something nobody can clearly own, including you. That is the opposite of what you hired me for. Any stock photography or fonts in your project stay under whatever license they came with.
If you want a variation on something I built, ask me. It is usually a quick job, and it keeps the result yours.
Who else touches your work
Today I have no employees and no subcontractors. When you hire me, I am the person doing the work. That is the whole point of hiring me instead of an agency.
If that ever changes, these rules still apply:
- Anyone I bring in will work in accounts and tools I control, to my standards, and I will review their work before it reaches you.
- They will agree to this policy in writing before they start, including the rules on your information above.
- I use AI tools under my own direct supervision. I do not let an AI system act on its own, contact you on my behalf, or make decisions about your project.
- If anyone other than me works on your project, I will tell you.
Common questions
Do you use AI to build my website?
Not in the way people mean when they ask. I write the code and I do the design, with no page builders and no generated templates. AI helps me with research, rough drafts I rewrite, and technical reference while I build. The finished site is my work and I can explain every line of it.
Will my information be used to train AI?
No. I turn training off on the AI tools I use, and I check that setting. I keep your customers' data, your credentials and your financial records out of those tools.
Do you type my passwords into AI tools?
No. Never. Passwords and logins live in a password manager, which is where they belong. When a job needs server or account access, I set that up under my own credentials rather than pasting yours anywhere.
I already made something with AI. Can you still help me?
Yes, and please send it. It tells me what you are picturing, which is often the hardest part to put into words. Finishing or rebuilding an AI-built project is quoted as its own job rather than covered under a care plan.
Which AI tools do you use?
I do not publish the list, because it changes too often to be worth printing. Ask me and I will tell you what I am using on your project.
Will I ever get a bot instead of you?
No. Every call and message about your project comes from me, and I read everything before it goes out. There is no bot answering on my behalf, and there will not be one.
Can I put the finished work through AI myself after you deliver it?
Please don't. What comes back out may be something neither of us can clearly own. If you want a variation, ask me and I will make it properly.
