About Datum
We named the company after the thing we sell
A datum is the fixed reference point every other measurement is taken from. If it's wrong, everything built on it is wrong — and nobody finds out until much later. That's structured cabling exactly.
Since 2012
Started over a closet nobody could document
Our founder spent eleven years as a BICSI-credentialed installer and designer before starting Datum in 2012. The job that pushed him out on his own was a hospital IDF where a two-hour change turned into a fourteen-hour outage — not because anyone did anything wrong that night, but because the room had no labeling and no as-builts, and the only person who understood it had retired in 2009.
The cabling in that room was fine. The install had been competent. What was missing was the piece that costs almost nothing at the time and is priceless later: writing down what you did.
So Datum has exactly one rule that isn't negotiable, on every job, for every client, at every size.
"The job isn't finished when the cable works. It's finished when somebody who's never been in the building can find any port in ten seconds from the documentation we left."
How we operate
Four commitments on every job
Line-item quotes, always
Drops, pathway, terminations, testing, documentation — each priced separately. You can cut scope without renegotiating, and you can compare us honestly against anyone else.
Every link tested
Not a sample. Every link, with a calibrated tester, results delivered as PDF and raw file so any third party can verify our work without taking our word for it.
Documentation is the deliverable
As-builts, labeling schedules, rack elevations, and warranty registration in your name. In native, editable formats. It's your documentation.
We say no to work outside our lane
We don't program AV, sell security systems, or do line-voltage electrical. We'll refer you to people who do it well and take nothing for it.
Credentials
Licensed, credentialed, insured
BICSI credentialed
RCDD on staff for design, with BICSI-certified installers and technicians in the field. Manufacturer certifications maintained annually for warranty eligibility.
Texas licensed
Texas licensed electrical contractor (TDLR) - BICSI RCDD on staff. Certificates of insurance issued same day to GCs, property managers, and colocation facilities.
Standards-based
TIA-568 for installation, TIA-606 for labeling and administration, TIA-607 for bonding and grounding. Every job, whether the spec asks for it or not.
Service area
Central Texas, and we mean it
We work Austin, Round Rock, Georgetown, San Marcos, New Braunfels, San Antonio and the Central Texas corridor. Inside that corridor we can get a crew to a job or an emergency without a hotel, which is the entire reason the boundary exists. Outside it, we'll refer you rather than pretend.
- Austin metro — home base, 9412 Wall Street, Suite 120
- Round Rock, Georgetown, Cedar Park, Pflugerville — full coverage, next-day scheduling
- San Marcos, New Braunfels — the I-35 corridor, regular work
- San Antonio — scheduled projects and block-client MACs
